Privacy Policy
Last updated October 24, 2026
Family Operating Base (FOB) is a private space for the groups you create — a family group, a friend group, or both. This policy explains what information we collect when you create an account, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information you give us
- Account information: your email address, password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider), display name, and — only if you choose to provide one — your phone number.
- Content you create: notes, calendar events, tasks and comments, chat messages, planner projects and to-dos, and any images you upload.
- Location data: only if you tap “Share my location.” We store your latest coordinates and accuracy so your group members can see you on the map.
- Billing information: if you start a trial or subscribe, payments are processed by Stripe. We store your subscription status, plan and customer reference — never your full card details.
2. How we use your information
- To operate the app: authenticate you, show your notes, events, tasks, chat, planner and map, and keep them in sync across devices.
- To share within your groups only: tasks, chat, points and locations are visible to members of the group you join, and nobody else.
- To send transactional messages: group invites and account-related notifications, including SMS if you provide a phone number (see section 6).
- To manage subscriptions: unlock Family Plus features, handle the free month, renewals, upgrades and cancellations.
- To keep the service secure: detect abuse, debug problems and protect accounts.
3. What stays private to you
Notes and personal calendar events are private to your account — other group members, including the person who created the group, cannot read them. Database-level access rules enforce this, not just the app interface.
4. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your group content for advertising.
- Members of your groups can see shared content: tasks, task comments, chat messages, planner projects, Fam points and shared locations.
- Service providers process data on our behalf: our cloud database, authentication and storage provider, Stripe for payments, Google Maps for rendering the map, and our messaging provider for SMS and email delivery.
- Legal reasons: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users.
5. Location sharing
Location sharing is always opt-in and off by default. Your browser or device will ask for permission before any coordinates are read. You can stop sharing at any time, and you can delete your stored location so it no longer appears on your group's map.
6. SMS and text messages
We use SMS for transactional messages only — never marketing. We only text you if you add a mobile number and separately agree to receive texts, either at signup or on your Account page. Agreeing is optional and is not a condition of using FOB.
- Messages cover account and group activity, such as task assignments, ownership requests and plan updates.
- Group invites are sent from your own phone using your messaging app. We do not text people who haven't agreed to receive messages from us.
- Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan.
- Reply STOP at any time to opt out, or HELP for help. You can also turn texts off on your Account page, or email support@familyoperatingbase.com. Full program details are on our SMS Terms page (familyoperatingbase.com/sms).
- No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with third parties, except the SMS provider that delivers our messages.
7. Children and family use
FOB is designed for household and personal-group use and may be used by children under the supervision of a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian is responsible for creating and managing accounts for minors in their groups, and for the content those accounts share.
8. Data retention and deletion
We keep your content while your account is active. You can delete individual notes, events, tasks, comments, messages, planner items and your shared location at any time from within the app. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal content, subject to any records we must keep for legal or accounting reasons.
9. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with row-level access rules so requests can only reach data you are authorised to see. Uploaded images live in private storage and are served through short-lived signed links. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. Contact us and we will respond within a reasonable time.
11. Changes and contact
If we make material changes to this policy we will update the date above and notify you in the app. Questions or requests: support@familyoperatingbase.com.
